asian snack overload

so i noticed a lack of snacks at home recently when i got the munchies whilst tumblring ( i follow WAY too many food blogs fml -.-"), the result was me going to china town and buying a tonne of snacks :P
lol i'm a pig yes i know... i found it incredibly difficult whilst shopping though, i always do since there's such variety O.O takes me FOREVER to pick stuff
anyways here's a little run down on what i got:
I love drinking hot thick peanut/black sesame/almond desserts in winter, but i've never tried to the pumpkin version and as of recent i've noticed i've had strange cravings for sweet pumpkin food O.o (lol at the lady on the package why is she there.. LOL)

so you probably won't know what this is.. the flavor is a mixture of lychee/durian (i don't know the name of the fruit but that's what it tastes like), anyways it's a kind of dry flakey biscuity thing and it kind of is like refined sand stuck together (sounds bad LOL) but it actual tastes good.
this is simply put AMAZING its like a soft, flakey thin bun filled with sweet red bean paste so nommy.. i recommend you try it if you see any at the Asian grocers

in the past I've tried to make layer cake before and failed epicly, so i guess buying is just better it's pandan and coconut flavor and has the texture of sponge cake.

These have to be the tastiest coated peanuts EVAR, i remember i'd always eat these when i was younger all the time when i was bored on planes. usually peanuts are salted but these are sweet and not too sweet either

i always pick around in those "asian cracker snack" trail mix thingies for these, so i was pretty happy to see they had these separate and they're sooo good crisp, crunchy and sweet and salty

i'm a massive fan of all things banana banana cake, banana muffins, banana and custard, banana candy (lol practically anything sweet that's banana) and i especially love banana chips! ^^

so... i bet you've come to realize now that i'm a fan of sweets and desserts who isnt? :P

asian snacks

I always love going into asian grocers and seeing what interesting/ strange snacks and drinks they have, and I've come to realise americans aren't the only ones who like to "supersize" food. In fact a not too long ago i came across a Giant Caplico
don't let the packaging and look of it fool you though, it's not an ice cream but rather like strawberry wafer/aero chocolate in an ice cream cone with bubbly melt in your mouth chocolate in the centre. Texturally it's one of the most interesting snacks to eat!
I also came across the mother of all Ramunes, on the label it said "giant ramune" LOL the picture does not do it justice this thing was huge!
lol don't mind my awkward looking facial expression..

top 10 pokemon bento's

top 10 of my favourite pokemon bento's on the net!

the amount of skill and creativity people put into food never ceases to amaze me.. i personally would find it very difficult to nom on any of these, aren't all the pikachu's just too cute to eat?

Yum cha @ Citi zen

so for those of you who don't know (although everyone should know!) what yum cha is it practically means to "have tea" or "drink tea" its where delicious asian dumplings, cakes, tarts, vegetables, meats and everything and anything else nomy is either pushed around on carts to tables or they are offered by waiters/waitresses (usually you'll only have yumcha during morning/early afternoon time).Food is mainly steamed and extremely tasty and comes in small portions since the idea is to have "light meal" with he pleasure of tasting alot of different foods.
So yeah.. i went to yum cha with some family friends, my dad and grandmother yesterday at Citi zhen (located near kinng william st.)
lol here's some pictures for you to drool at :P
The decor in the new Citi zhen was so pretty ^^
forgot what this is called but the filling is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, its wrapped around by a silky prawn rice noodle. Textures great and is a pleasure to eat! was a bit bland though..
Pan fried raddish cake! nice and crisp on the outside and soft and nomy on the inside wheen it came to us it was cold, how ever it was still super nomy!
i dont know why so many people think chicken feet are gross -.- seriously if you haven't tried well seasoned well cooked version of this you're MISSING OUT its the perfect balance of spicyness, saltiness and sweetness

Once you unravel these banana leaves the stickiest nomiest most fragrant and equally flavoursome sticky rice is revealed! It was uber hot though.. i had to blow on it before eating

This is probably one of my favourite dishes served at Yum cha, the pork is so succulent and is overflowing with delicious flavoursome juices once you bite into it, although there's really very little meat wrapped around the bones lol
This is pork wrapped in bean curd skin, the meat is so tender and juicy and is matched with the perfect balance of seasoning and vegetables texture is great too and it feels like it melts in your mouth!
EVERYONE knows what these are! EGG TARTS om nom nom.. the filling was so soft and smooth... but it was slightly too sweet.
Okay so LOL here's a sum up of citi zhen i guess
service: 3/5 (the waitress walked right past us at times even when we clearly wanted to the dish lol)
food:4/5 not the best yumcha i've had :/ but its still REAALLLY good
Dunno what else im meant to rate them on O.o haha now i feel all "food critiquey" X]

day out in the city

It had been while since i was last in the city for a full day, so i asked my friend Amy if she wanted to visit all the Asian stores and go to kbox with me ^.^ (what we asians do yoo~). First i wanted to get ice cream from the marijuana er.. mariana market (practically an asian grocery with everything that you wish other asian grocers had that even has its own smoothie stand in it) lol the buildings big and green and from across the road the sign looks like it says "marijuana". Inside there are so many samples for everything, and being the curious person i am i was quite interested in the "sheep's milk yoghurt" so i tried it.. and BLEH its gross

but yeah Amy got a chocolate mochi icecream pack and i got this weird um.. icy pop? bottle? icy bottle? anyways it was a strange pear flavour and eating it was so difficult and i bet i looked like a complete freak (meh.. oh well twas nomy)

Anyone that's been with me out to town will know i have an uncanny admiration for everything in morning glory so that's were we decided we had to go! I saw this big cuddly looking soft pink teddy bear.. that i couldn't afford -.-" (hint for early christmas present *wink *wink)

so yeah then after that we got crepe's (amy had the strawberry cream and i the warm nutella and mango which was a pain to eat due to the nutella melting everywhere>.<), went to kbox and i stalked a guy down hindley street to get a picture of behind his head cause it was the first time i'd ever seen anyone have a footbal pattern cut and coloured into their hair. All summed up in the following photo collage

adelaide central markets

Although often I whine about how boring and small Adelaide is I've come to realization that there are many small treasures in this great city and cute old stores that keep it feeling very hm... whats the word.. towny? Anyways my boyfriend and i were completely lost as to what we should do so we decided to look around the central markets, and we came across one of a few Blackeby's candy stalls in Adelaide city (well.. there goes my diet)

Other than the large brightly coloured swirly lollipops, gumballs, fairy floss and gummies I was being tempted by the ultimate chock block full of carbs and sugar.. ah damn you american candy bars

There was also this very interesting setup of drinks that i'd never seen before O.O i'm curious as to what the green "coola" tastes like (does this remind you of a hospital setup slightly?)

gamer goodies

so i was just walking around adelaide city admittedly quite bored as adelaide is well pretty much a boring city O.O.... and then to my surprise i stumbled across these awesome gamer goodies, i was shocked at their pure awesomeness and incredibly disappointed at how little money i had left rendering me depressingly unable to buy them >:(  ( shame on me  for underestimating the power of gamers and their ability to own stores and sell cool shizz)

im curious to what they taste like though...
there are FAR too many gamer shirts that i was spazzing over, if only i was some rich millionaire i'd buy the whole damn store. Those mario candy fruit strips look so om nom nomy too.. *sigh* perhaps i'll splurge and spend all my money there next time
